Last night, I showed Red Dawn for my survey class. As the film was starting, I mentioned to my students that Walter in The Big Lebowski was based on John Milius, the director of Red Dawn. Then I realized that my students had no idea what I was talking about. I asked them if they had seen The Big Lebowski. One said she had, but "it was a long time ago."

I have worked at universities for the past...well, ever since I finished school and I have these same kinds of constant reminders.  These situations also remind me of all the times my "elders" expressed surprise and disgust at my lack of knowledge for certain pop legends and culture icons.  I guess it's just part of growing up.

Portland achieves!  Not only are they hosting a Lebowski Fest on the Speed of Sound Tour this year, they have also been hosting other Lebowski events to get warmed up for the big one.

Recently Kevin Spacey was awarded the Monte Cristo Award by the Eugene O'Neill Theater.  Turns out Jeff Bridges is an honorary committee member.  Excellent choice I say.  As usual, The Dude abides.
