The Coen Brothers, clever as they are, often include real and seemingly real bits to all of their films. That's one of the reasons why I love analyzing their movies. The Big Lebowski has several of these elements, one of them being a small factoid about The Dude's history - he was once a roadie for the ever popular speed metal band Metallica. He talks about being on the road with them for the Speed of Sound Tour. Metallica really exists. I'd be surprised to meet someone who has never heard of the band, however, they never had a Speed of Sound Tour nor an album of that name. As a side note though, I recently watched the documentary Anvil: The Story of Anvil and they did have an album back in the day called Speed of Sound...
So here's an article about some roadies for Metallica. It's mostly about some of the gear and microphones that they use. One of the guys, "Big Mick" Hughes, has been with the band since the beginning. And that's pretty cool, man. Obviously he's the man for his time and place when it comes to sound mixing. http://www.musicgearreview.com/article-display/2721.html
