Liz and I finally got a chance to go see Crazy Heart and it's amazing. I won't sit here and gush about Jeff Bridges, but the movie is great. We really hope he wins his Best Actor golden statue.
If you haven't gotten a chance to see it yet, please try, or at least rent it when it hits DVD. Many have been comparing this to The Wrestler from 2008...we kind of see the similarities but they're really very different films. Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal performed well. These are two actors who car really dive into an acting role. For those who are big fans of The Dude, you'll definately see some connections between this and The Big Lebowski, but if you're like me - every role in which I see Jeff Bridges is seen through my "Dude filter." The good news is JB does not just play The Dude here, he's Bad Blake. Liz mentioned this is a really good sobriety story and I totally agree. One very surprising thing we witnessed in the theater was everybody but one person sat through the credits. Usually people are getting up before a film is even finished to dash out to their car. At the end of the film you get to hear the song by T Bone Burnett and Stephen Bruton. It seemed the audience felt the song was part of the film and they really showed some respect for the film by sticking through it. I'm sure we'll be doing a formal review at some point. If Jeff Bridges does indeed win Best Actor next month, we'll be doing a tribute episode to his career.
