If you've ever stopped to notice, there are three musicians, not counting Jeff Bridges who dabbles a bit, who act in The Big Lebowski that get roughed up a bit. Some have hypothesized the Coens hate artists. I think that's a huge stretch of imagination. Smokey, a fellow bowler at the alley who is oh so fragile, was played by Country Western musician Jimmie Dale Gilmore. He did an interview with NPR back in November of 2005, that is available again if you'd like to check it out. A couple highlights include Gilmore talking about his father's influence on the album, being introduced to honky tonk at an early age, and his thoughts on Johnny Cash. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129458471
