Our fellow compeer Jason McElweenie, founder and organizer of the Houston Lebowski Bash, has setup another movie-themed event surrounding one of Wes Anderson's finest - Rushmore. Rushmore hit the scene in 1998 and was well received by many. It was a great follow-up to Anderson's first film, Bottle Rocket, and gave Jason Schwartzman and excellent start to a wonderful acting career. On a side note, if you haven't seen I Heart Huckabees, you should check it out and keep in mind that Schwartzman's mother is played by his actual mother - Talia Shire. Anyway, I'm getting off on a tangent here. The film follows Max Fischer (played by Schwartzman) as he's trying to find his lot in life. He's recently been forced to leave his fancy prep school and is trying to keep up appearances at public school. Meanwhile he makes some new friends, develops a crush on a teacher, and is high in the running for the Guinness Book of World Record in most after school activities ever. So in true form, Rushmore Fest starts at 6:30pm on Saturday, September 24th, with a gathering of the Houston Kite Flying Society. There will be trivia, costumes, and what have you followed by the Rushmore School Dance later that night. Sounds like a blast.
