Did you know that David Cross auditioned for Brandt? For an actor who has carved out a niche playing impish sidekicks and clueless buffoons, David Cross is well-aware of his limitations. “I auditioned for The Big Lebowski and I thought I did a really good job,” he tells Vulture. “But then I saw what Philip Seymour Hoffman did with the part, and I was like, ‘ Oh— that’s the way to do it.’” Of course, aspiring sketch comedians have been saying the same about Cross ever since HBO debuted his endlessly influential Mr. Show With Bob and David. http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/11/david_cross_on_all_his_roles.html Many of you probably know David from his roles in Arrested Development, Mr Show, The Ben Stiller Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and many others. The guy has skills, and most of them are comedic. I'm always willing to watch something with Cross acting in it. It's hard for me to imagine him as Brandt, but I'm sure I would have still loved The Big Lebowski with Cross' performance in it.
