I often see sports teams and what have you named "The Little Lebowski Urban Achievers," and many times I have seen fellow achievers come dressed as one to a Lebowski Fest or Lebowski-themed event. How many can say they really were an achiever? I now know one person who can and her name is Hayley Rafner. Thanks to the powers of Google I came across an artice in the San Diego Reader this week written by Hayley. She was writing about some experiences she's had growing up due to the fact her family works in the film industry. One of those experiences was being part of the picture that became the "Little Lebowski Urban Achievers." You know - "inner-city children of promise but without the necessary means for a necessary means, for a higher education." The more I think about it, the more this sounds like that episode of The Office where we find out Michael Scott promised a whole class of local school children he would pay their way through college. Did Mr. Lebowski send them all? I forgot to ask Hayley, but I have a feeling something would have come up...unless this was being funded through the foundation. We all know the wealth was "mother's" and Jeffrey Lebowski lived on an allowance, which was ample. Anyway, it was really cool to find someone like this on the internet. There is so much that goes into the making of a film behind the scenes we never learn or hear about. We all see and read about the actors, directors, producers, and writers - but what about the electricians, gaffers, set directors, costume designers, sound guys, editors, kraft services, and everyone else? We're not dealing with morons here. Hayley graciously gave up some of her time on a Friday evening to chat with the royal we on the phone. We'll post the audio in a few weeks or so. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Click here to read Hayley's article
